    Homer E. Jenne journal

    Manuscripts

    Homer E. Jenne started his journal January 1, 1880. The Jenne family lived in Soquel, California. Although Homer helps out on the family ranch, he is a certified teacher and taught at several rural schools in Santa Cruz County. Jenne discusses his search for employment; studying for and taking teachers' exams; his hardships as a teacher; his courtship of and marriage to his neighbor Millie Cahoon; a trip to Portland and Dalles, Oregon and Washington State; visits to Santa Cruz; and his purchase of a ranch in Ben Lomond, California. Homer sold books to earn extra income as well as invented a calculating machine, for which he was pursuing a patent when the journal ends. The last 26 pages of the journal are Jenne's financial accounts for the years 1880-1882.

    Theodore Roosevelt, New York, letters to Homer Calvin Davenport and Homer Clyde Davenport :

    Seven letters written on letterhead for The Outlook magazine, Office of Theodore Roosevelt. The first five letters are to political cartoonist Homer Calvin Davenport (1867-1912) regarding publishing and financial matters and the death of Davenport's father. The final two letters are most likely to Davenport's son, Homer Clyde Davenport Jr. (1896-1918) and are brief responses to his letters. Letters dated: 1910 July 27, 1910 August 6, 1910 December 20, 1911 May 2, 1912 February 16, 1913 September 10, 1914 May 27.

    Homer D. Crotty Papers and Addenda

    The Homer D. Crotty papers and addenda are one unified collection of papers with two separate organizational schemes. The Homer D. Crotty papers were organized in accordance to the original order as received by The Huntington Library and without any series designations. The papers consists primarily of Homer D. Crotty's business and organization papers, including agreements, bylaws, clippings, correspondence, financial records, insurance records, invitations, lists, memorandums, minutes, notes, pamphlets, photos, programs, receipts, reports, speeches, tax records, time sheets, typescripts, and writings. The papers also include a small amount of education and personal records. The addenda is organized into three series: 1) Personal papers 2)Organizations 3)Oversize Personal papers include records related to the personal lives of Homer and Ida Crotty, such as correspondence, book catalogs, birth certificates, death certificates, diaries, passports, photos, notebooks, speeches, travel ephemeral, and writings. This series is arranged alphabetically by genre. Organization records document the creators' participation in various clubs, charities, legal associations, and nonprofit organizations. This series is arranged alphabetically by organization name. Oversize items include architectural drawings, lecture notes, letter books (correspondence), photos, prints, and textbooks. This series is arranged by item size.
